There are many benefits to visiting your local Garden Centre. It’s tempting to order everything you need for your garden online. It’s certainly the easy way to go, but is it the best way to create a healthy garden?

Garden Centres of Australia (GCA) is thrilled to announce its partnership with One Tree Per Child (OTPC). OTPC began as a grassroots tree-planting initiative in schools councils and communities. Now, through GCA we are rolling out OTPC as an ongoing program to engage children and promote gardening as a wonderful activity for the whole family.

•  Your Local Garden Centre knows local conditions.  Most of the time the staff from your local garden centre are gardeners themselves and have experience with local climate, soils and plants. Talking with experts who will steer you to the right plants and tools will give you the confidence to create a gorgeous garden on your own.
• They care about the quality.  Owners of a local garden centre spend every day with their trees, flowers and shrubs, giving them their undivided attention and care. They ensure their garden centre remains beautiful (and healthy) for their customers to enjoy. Due to often small levels of inventory, it makes a big difference to independent garden centres to lose even one plant. Staff are personally watering, dead-heading and pruning every day. They will even move plants around their shop throughout the day to ensure they receive the right amount of sunlight. Garden centres want each and every plant to go home with their customer in its very best condition.

• See real-life displays.  Generally a local garden centre will have display gardens on show. This allows customers to see the plants in real garden settings rather than just in containers. It provides customers with inspirational ideas for their own garden designs. These can often be changed out with the seasons for variety.
• They are gardener magnets. Whether you are new to gardening or a seasoned pro, you’ll find common ground at your local garden centre. They are great places to meet other like-minded gardeners with whom you can share ideas, observations and problem-solving tips.
